Most internships are unpaid but you may find a paid internship or be paid after you've proven yourself. Internships work best for juniors and seniors who have demonstrated the maturity necessary for success in the workplace. Think about how to make it fit your schedule and the workplace's schedule.
What do I do in an internship?
Your own project (create a web site, a brochure, a short video, update a database, work on a drone...)
Help with the activities of your workplace: teacher assistant, physical therapy assistant, coach/instructor assistant, police officer helper, repair laptops for ACPS, museum curator assistant, help organize a conference, conduct experiments...
In order to earn internship credit you will need to work 4 hours a week, complete time sheets and journals and do a final portfolio and presentation. Details here.
Where can I intern?
Anywhere if you can make it work! It is the student's responsibility to locate the internship but I am here to help you with each step of the process. Some suggestions below:
Opportunities available through ACPS (best for people who don't have transportation). Ask Ms. Bertrand to share a list of ideas sorted by interest area with you. Consider gaining skills through Career and Tech Education classes to be more likely to obtain a paid internship. Use the CUED-IN app or connect to the web site for current opportunities available.
