The most important thing you can do is to continue to stay away from others, hard as it may be.
Sew a mask for medical workers. See what the local needs are here.
A few of us have a 3D printer and may be able to help make masks. See local needs here.
GET AWAY FROM THE CURRENT CRISIS:
Help a nonprofit that supports a cause you care about. Try the Center for Non Profit Excellence for a list. Young people already know how to deal with social media and how to live online. Offer your expertise to people who need it now more than ever.
There are many more options available. If you find one that interests you, please let me know and I'll highlight it.
Volunteer online in the medical field:
Sentara Martha Jefferson Junior Volunteer Program will still be happening. The program will be held virtually with various projects and learning opportunities. There will be panels with health professionals, different videos to watch, community projects, and other opportunities. Though different, the program will still be meaningful with many opportunities to learn about healthcare professions. Download the application here and return it before the end of May.
Volunteer online in History:
Montpelier Digital Archeology (checking to see if they still need help).
Cvillepedia can also be done from anywhere at any time. Anything can be added to it. For example, you could digitize the Daily Progress edition of your birthday so it becomes searchable by others. Or the history of bands in Charlottesville. As far as training goes, Cvillepedia directs everyone to Wikipedia's how-to because it works the same way. The instructions are long and complicated, but I found two short and decent tutorials on YouTube.
